Thoughts are powerful. They can work for us or against us!! You can’t live a victorious life if your thoughts are filled with negativity. Right thinking is vital to living a victorious life. Right thinking is getting your thinking in line with God’s word. So needless to say it’s important we are familiar with God’s word.
I realized early on when I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior that everything had changed. For one thing my appetite of reading material was dramatically altered.
Prior to being born again one of my favorite reading materials was Cosmopolitan. However, that was quickly replaced by a strong desire to read my bible.
As an ever increasing awareness of God’s ways was taking root in me I soon began to realize that even though my heart was longing to live a sin free life there were areas in my life that I was struggling to overcome.
The most prominent one was alcohol. My first request of God was to make me like other people who could stop after having a drink or two. But that just didn’t happen. Everytime without fail when I would have a drink it would become excessive. It was during this period that Satan, who is known as the father of lies, seeing my weakness started planting thoughts in my mind that I wasn’t saved. I actually started to question my own salvation.
Because of my struggle in this area I was vulnerable.
I kept trying to stop, but failed again and again. My confidence was at an all time low, but I kept pressing in and coming to church and reading my Bible. And then one day God brought me to this word. It literally jumped off the pages at me:
Philippians 1:6 “being confident in this that He that began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
When I read that a light bulb went off!
I knew it was God who would complete that work in me and I no longer questioned my salvation.
Jesus said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
I filled my thoughts with what God said, and as I did my confidence grew and so did my dependency on God.
I not only thought it, I declared it, because faith comes from hearing the word of God. And as I declared it I stood strong in my faith of knowing God would do it, and so he did.
It was within a year of my conversion that I was completely delivered from that stronghold on my life. God actually took away the desire for alcohol completely.
As a Christian it is important we just decide to believe God. Doubt comes in the form of opposition to what the word says. However, we can choose to believe what God says.
So we need to know God’s word and fill our thoughts with these things:
1 Peter 1:23 I have been born again not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God
1 Corinthians 5:17 I am a new creation
Ephesians 6:10 I am strong in the Lord
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Jesus Christ
Revelation 21:7 I am victorious
Philippians 1:6 “being confident in this that He that began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
John 8:32 Jesus said “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
